Hand-painted (gilded) Riga Porcelain Factory’s bowl. Hallmark refers to the production period 1978. Item is marked as the first (=highest) quality grade, therefore the hallmark is red.
Decoration was added by Estonian decoration workshop called ARS. It was not seen as a good tone to use gilding and overdecorate the product in the depressing dictatorship regime times of Lenin and Stalin. Stalin ruled here, in Latvia and Estonia, since the second occupation of Baltics in 1939 till his death in 1952.
The decorator’s will and courage to make things look beautiful is evidently back in 1978.
