Silver (875 standard) cigarette case from the Estonian (first) independence times (1920-1940).

Origin: Estonia (mark of lion).

Silversmith mark: AW.

Total weight: 176.1 grams.

Case has the original gilt interior and a precious stone is used on the locker. Also, the case is decorated with the golden texts that are names of the close ones or the people that offered this gift. The monogram of the cigarette case owner (AS) is placed in the middle of the case lid.

Note one peculiarity that makes this cigarette case extra adorable. Estonian word "Abikaasa" (translated from Estonian to English as "Spouse") is engraved on one of the golden plates and it reveals a gramar mistake ("Abikasa"). May it mean that neither the orderer of this silver case, nor the silversmith is educated enough to spot the misspelling... or, may it be more likely that this mistake is made intentionally and reminds about some special occasion to the husband and wife?

Tip: cigarette case is a stilish way to store your aligners, if you happen to be in progress with your orthodontic treatment.

Historical background:

After centuries of successive rule by the Teutonic Order, Denmark, Sweden, and the Russian Empire, a distinct Estonian national identity began to emerge in the mid-19th century. This culminated in the 24 February 1918 Estonian Declaration of Independence from the then-warring Russian and German empires.
